Double-edged Judgements

Some random introspection that occurred to me while playing a game this evening.

In short, a lot of people aren't willing to acknowledge certain truths about God. Oh sure, they'll repeat the mottoes and slogans like everyone else, but they'll be perfectly content to ignore the meaning of those words.

One metaphor I've heard one this subject is that many of us are like unfired ceramic pottery. We're perfectly fine with everyone else going through the furnace, and even love the way the heat turns the molded clay into a finished masterpiece, but there's no way we'll voluntarily enter the oven ourselves. Suddenly, becoming a beautiful, finished work isn't worth the trial when it's our hide in the oven.

For the curious, the object at the bottom of the picture is intended to be a simplified image of the Altar of Sacrifice. Offerings to God were burned there.
